Coverage and Liability

Adrian Flux and Tokio Marine HCC International (TMHCCI) have launched a domestic home insurance policy designed for humanoid robots, which are expected to arrive in UK homes starting in 2027. Underwritten by TMHCCI and available through Adrian Flux, the cover protects against damage to and theft of the robot, sudden property damage caused by the robot, and personal liability if the device injures someone or damages external property. It also covers emergency recovery or safe disablement following a sudden malfunction. While domestic robots are already available to pre-order in the US for around $20,000, the immediate market impact in the UK is minimal given their current absence from households. However, the policy highlights emerging questions around liability allocation between owners, manufacturers, and software providers when autonomous devices cause harm.
