Low preparedness amid heavy losses

UK businesses are facing compounding risks from business interruption, cyber incidents and supply chain disruption, yet few are prepared to measure or manage them, according to a report from Aon. Drawing on UK findings from its 2025 Global Risk Management Survey, the broker found that 27.3% of surveyed organisations suffered significant financial losses from business interruption, 30.8% from supply chain disruption, and 9.3% from cyber incidents.

The quantification gap

Despite these losses, formal risk management plans remain uncommon. Only 21.6% of firms have a formal plan for business interruption, 23.6% for supply chain risk, and 24.6% for cyber. Furthermore, only 16% have quantified their exposure to business interruption, 12.4% to supply chain disruption, and 13.1% to cyber. Aon noted that without such quantification, senior leaders struggle to make informed investment decisions, structure adequate insurance programmes, or plan for prolonged recovery times.
