Capacity and Rate Reductions

Global mining liability capacity has grown for the eighth consecutive year to exceed $1.2 billion, with property placements oversubscribed and carriers relaxing restrictions on tailings storage facilities and underground exposures. Rate reductions of 10% to 20% are running on well-managed US property accounts and claim-free South African business, according to a Willis report.

Supply Chain and Operational Exposures

Critical mineral supply chains are increasingly concentrated, with refining shares in key energy minerals reaching 70% in 2025. Standard property policies often fail to cover vulnerabilities beyond the mine gate, while automated operations and remote technologies expand the cyber attack surface across production, logistics and equipment.
