Munich Re Specialty has expanded into the Australian primary specialty insurance market, targeting commercial and mid-market clients with property, construction and engineering, mining, and surety products. The Sydney-headquartered business is led by Chris Mackinnon, who previously served as Lloyd's general representative in Australia and, more recently, as regional director for Lloyd's across Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa. Mackinnon's industry background also includes director roles at the Insurance Council of Australia and the Underwriting Agencies Council.
Management team and regional presence
Alongside Mackinnon's appointment, Munich Re Specialty has named Chris Harnett as head of underwriting, Angus Kench as head of claims, and Alison Percival as head of partnerships. The Australian operation builds upon the firm's existing Asia Pacific and regional footprint, which includes offices in Singapore, Malaysia, and Dubai, while co-locating with Munich Re's established corporate and reinsurance hub in Sydney.
