Covering the human impact of cyber attacks

Specialist insurer CFC has introduced policy additions across its global cyber offerings through brokers to cover personal fallout for executives targeted by ransomware criminals. The additions include trauma counselling, therapy services, personal theft of funds, and temporary relocation costs for executives whose home and family details have been identified by attackers. Lindsey Maher, head of global cyber development at CFC, stated that the coverage sits as primary within the cyber policy rather than overlapping with directors' and officers' insurance, designed to settle the issue before a claim occurs.

Wider market approach to mental health support

Berkley Cyber Risk Solutions previously introduced crisis counselling coverage in the United States in May 2024 and extended endorsements in June 2025 to cover cancelled holidays, childcare, elder care and corporate safety costs for staff managing breaches. Research published in the Journal of Cybersecurity, drawing on Royal United Services Institute work, highlights significant psychological harm among ransomware victims, particularly at smaller firms where personal and working lives overlap closely.
